Dr. Gundry explains why you’re probably eating too much protein

These days, it seems like there’s a new diet every week — and most of them have one thing in common: Lots and lots of protein.

But is all that protein necessary — or even healthy?

On this episode of The Dr. Gundry Podcast, I’m going to debunk a few of the biggest myths about protein, tell you the one protein you should always avoid, and explain why a vegetarian diet may be the healthiest diet out there — EVEN if you want to build big muscles.

I’m also going to tell you about one lectin-containing food you should add to your diet today (yes, really!).

So tune in — you won’t want to miss this one.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • How much protein your body really needs every day (the answer will surprise you) (1:30)
  • Why the creator of the Atkins diet gained so much weight and why the Atkins diet can have the same effect on YOU (8:30)

  • A surprising “hidden danger” in red meat that can actually harm your brain (11:30)
  • Why the world’s “superolds” all share this 1 thing in common (and it’s not their diet) (12:45)

  • The truth about “grass fed” beef (prepare to be SHOCKED) (20:15)

  • My favorite source of protein and how it can “turn on” your longevity genes (it even contains lectins!) (26:50)
  • The “salad solution” for meeting all your body’s protein needs (28:00)
  • The “buggy” benefits of intermittent fasting (plus: The dangers of fasting too long) (32:45)

Dr. Gundry interviews Claudia Curici about going lectin free

Are “healthy” foods sabotaging your health?

If they contain lectins, the answer is yes

Because these toxic plant proteins can lead to digestive problems, weight gain, joint pain, brain fog, and a host of other health issues so you want to avoid these “edible enemies” at all costs!

Now, I’ll be the first to tell you: Eliminating harmful lectins from your diet takes incredible will power.

But once you see the difference it can make to your physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing, it is so worth it.

And my guest is living proof of that.

On this episode of the Dr. Gundry Podcast, I speak with a Plant Paradox success story, Claudia Curici

Claudia started to feel her health decline in her late thirties. She gained weight, seemingly inexplicably, and no matter what she did, she just couldn’t lose it.

But that all changed about two years ago, when Claudia went lectin-free.

Since then, she’s dropped 25 pounds and has made remarkable strides in her health journey.

Now, she’s helping others follow suit.

Claudia who is studying to be a health coach shares recipes and other resources on her Instagram account and website, Creative in my Kitchen, The Art of Cooking Lectin-Free Food.

She’s also putting together a cookbook of lectin-free recipes that will come out in 2020.

On this episode, Claudia opens up about the health struggles that led her to cut lectins from her diet, and how The Plant Paradox changed her life for the better.

She also offers advice for cutting lectins from your diet, and how she’s dealing with a new health challenge head on.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

    • How you can be eating salads every day — and still see the number creep up on the scale (3:40)
    • The REAL reason you could be getting sinus infections (hint: it isn’t allergies) (11:45)
    • How you can be extremely overweight… without even knowing it (13:35)
    • The doctor-approved reason to look at your “skinny pictures” (15:00)
    • Why people are often misdiagnosed with anxiety… and what the REAL issue is (22:50)
    • The “nutty” way my patient overcame her nut allergy (29:30)
    • Why I’ve had a change of heart about eating spinach (33:30)
    • What ALL gluten-free patients will see on their lab tests (36:20)
    • How kissing your spouse could be damaging your gut (36:40)
    • The dangerous sugar molecule you should know about before attempting the the “Carnivore Diet” (46:20)
    • How to succeed on the Plant Paradox Diet… and actually stick with it! (50:20)
    • How a 99-year-old man with the “Alzheimer’s gene” still holds down a daily job (59:50)

Going Med-Free with The Plant Paradox Diet

What would you do if you found out you had an incurable, life-altering condition?

That’s a tough question, but it’s one my guest today has tried to answer for nearly a decade.

When Phillip Stutts was still in his 30s, he was diagnosed with achalasia — a rare disorder of the esophagus that makes eating almost impossible and that typically affects people in their 60s, 70s, and 80s.

It would have been very easy for Phillip to throw up his hands and give up. After all, there’s NO cure for achalasia.

But that’s not what Phillip did. Instead, he resolved to not only defeat his condition, but to find a cure — something most medical professionals think is impossible.

On this episode of the podcast, Phillip and I will chat about how the Plant Paradox helped him get off his medications, how he stays positive despite the setbacks, and the 1 thing you should NEVER skimp on.

This is one of the most inspiring, empowering conversations I’ve ever had on this podcast — so be sure to tune in.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • The “moonshot” trick for accomplishing your biggest, most ambitious goals (5:00)
  • How I convinced one of my biggest critics (and a huge skeptic of my work) that the Plant Paradox diet really does work (9:40)
  • The “kicking the can” method for sticking to your diet goals and staying healthy — even when you’re traveling (12:20)
  • The one thing that can NEVER be “too expensive” — and why it’s maybe the most important thing you can do for your health (19:00)
  • Why Parkinson’s Disease is actually connected to your GUT — and how you can start protecting yourself with one simple supplement (20:00)
  • Why a medical setback or a scary diagnosis can actually be a blessing in disguise: “It was the best thing that ever happened to me” (31:00)
  • The surprising way taking care of your daily health can be cheaper than a cup of coffee at Starbucks (33:20)
  • A shocking new source of lectins — and why you should start avoiding this “superfood” immediately (43:00)
  • The one food I never travel without (44:15)

Mentioned on this episode:

Phillip’s article in Inc Magazine

Phillip’s most recent update on his “moonshot”

The Plant Paradox

Antioxidant precursor molecule could improve Parkinson’s

Dr. Gundry interviews Dr. Terry Wahls about how diet helps M.S. patients

Can you imagine what it would feel like to be confined to an electric wheelchair for years… and then one day, being able to walk and even ride your bike again?

Well, my guest knows exactly what that feels like — and says FOOD helped her get her life back.

On this episode of the Dr. Gundry Podcast, I speak with Dr. Terry Wahls, a professor at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, a modern day medical marvel, and a good friend of mine.

In 2000, Dr. Wahls was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, an autoimmune disease that affects more than more than 2.3 million people worldwide.

But after years of steady decline, she was able to turn things around.

In 2007, she began a hunter-gatherer diet that employes FOOD as medicine.

And the results were astonishing.

Within a year, Dr. Wahls was able to walk through the hospital without a cane, and even ride a bike!

Tune in to learn more about her journey, and how the right diet can dramatically decrease the symptoms of M.S. and other serious health problems.

In this episode you’ll learn:

    • The eye-opening science experiment Dr. Wahls conducted… on herself  (7:40)
    • How to “rewire” your brain to improve mobility (hint: it doesn’t require medicine) (14:10)
    • Why there were some tears during the taping (14:30)
    • The “rainbow approach” to reducing and reversing your MS symptoms (16:20)
    • How to strengthen your marriage when you’re suffering from an autoimmune disease (18:30)
    • How many cups of veggies you should eat every day for optimal health (it’ll make your jaw drop) (27:25)
    • How fungus can reduce brain fog (28:30)
    • Why I want my patients to act like gorillas in Italy (32:00)
    • The reason Dr. Wahls has a “poop shrine” in her home (32:25)
    • What your poop says about your health (34:00)
    • 3 “danger foods” to avoid at all costs if you have an autoimmune disease (35:15)
    • The doctor-approved way to eat red meat (37:00)
    • The superfood you should cook in bacon fat (41:00)
    • How Dr. Wahls takes on haters who say she’s giving people “false hope” about getting better (45:25)

Mentioned on this episode:

The connection between gut health and brain health

The keto diet

Benefits of eating mushrooms for people with MS

The Longevity Paradox

Terry Wahls’ website
